Personal context, beyond iMessage.
Apple Intelligence lets Siri AI draw on your personal context — finding what you are looking for across your apps, just by asking. On its own, that reaches Apple’s apps and iMessage. AI Reply Assistant extends it: your conversations across WhatsApp, Telegram, Instagram, and Messenger join the same on-device index, so search and Siri AI cover all your messaging, not one app’s worth of it.
Ask Siri AI
Just ask. Siri AI answers in its own words and shows you the messages it drew on — and you can describe what you are after rather than name the chat: “my message to Alex about dinner.” Or swipe down on the Home Screen and type into Spotlight Search; both read the same on-device index. Tap a result to land in that chat. Nothing to set up — the index builds itself once your platforms are connected.
Siri AI answers from your messages — it does not send them. To have something done by voice, build it as a shortcut and run that by name.
What you can search
Your whole history is covered, with no cut-off date. Search reaches past plain message text and into the structured things people send — so you can find a poll by an option nobody remembers, or an event by the restaurant it was at.

The last three run only when you ask — nothing is transcribed, analysed, or translated in the background. Translation and Transcription is the chapter on the first and third of them. Pinned and starred items rank higher in results, and each result shows the contact or group avatar, who sent it, and a preview.
Privacy
The index is built and stored entirely on your device — your conversations are never sent anywhere to be indexed, and iOS keeps your queries private too, so apps never see what you type into Spotlight or Siri AI. Entries use resolved contact and chat names rather than raw phone numbers or IDs. Some things are kept out altogether, whatever your settings say:

Archived conversations are included — archiving tidies your inbox rather than hiding content. Logging out of a platform removes everything it contributed, immediately.
Search and Siri AI — common questions
iOS owns this switch, exactly as it does for Apple’s own Messages app — so there is no separate toggle buried inside AI Reply Assistant.
Open Settings ▸ Apps ▸ AI Reply Assistant (or Settings ▸ Siri & Search) and set Show Content in Search. Turning it off stops your messages appearing in Spotlight and being used for personal context.
Inside the app, open Settings ▸ Chat and find the search index row. It shows how many messages and conversations have been indexed, whether a build is running, and when it last finished.
If results look incomplete, use Restart Indexing to rebuild from scratch. The index also repairs itself — it rebuilds after a device restore and catches up each time you reopen the app.
Because iOS 27 keeps the index in a new, structured format — a poll stays a poll and an event stays an event, instead of being flattened into plain text — so the first time you open the app after upgrading it rebuilds once from scratch rather than converting the old index in place. What you can search does not change; how precisely Siri AI reads it does.
Nothing is lost and nothing needs your attention. Settings ▸ Chat shows the progress, and results fill back in newest-first as it runs. It happens once per device, not on every update.
